«Regalar una mascota por ejemplo este día de reyes, impacta negativamente, tanto en el cuidado de la misma como en su salud, ya que al que se la dan le quieren imponer una responsabilidad que a lo mejor no está dispuesto a asumir.
Muchas veces no se cumple con todas las bases requeridas, tanto desparasitación, vacunas, alimentación, esterilización, cuidado y buen trato, derechos fundamentales que requieren los animales para poder desarrollarse de una manera adecuada», advirtió Moisés Equihua, médico veterinario zootecnista.
Dijo que, al no cumplir con dichas recomendaciones, se pone en riesgo la salud de la mascota, que está más expuesta a presentar enfermedades, desde parvovirus, coronavirus, hepatitis, influenza, moquillo y rabia, por citar algunas. Tampoco se deben vender mascotas, porque no son un objeto que se puede llegar a devolver en todo caso de que no se quiera. Por ello es mejor adoptar, así existe convencimiento de mejorar la calidad de vida del animal».
Concluyó que el cuidado de una mascota debe ser de por vida y no dejarlos en el abandono cuando se les da la gana, «un perro vive en promedio 15 años, mientras que un gato 12. Exhorto a la población a no regalar mascotas este 6 de enero, existe una sobrepoblación de perros y gatos, muchas veces la gente que no se hace responsable no los esteriliza y estos se siguen reproduciendo y a su vez suele incrementar el maltrato animal, por ello debemos ser conscientes en ese tenor. De cada 10 personas que adquieren una mascota, 2 adoptan y 8 la compran”.
