Los arquitectos ven necesario contar con la actualización de un Atlas de Riesgo para el municipio, debido a que no existe una verdadera actualización para determinar cuáles son las zonas de peligro para la población al hablar a nivel de subsuelo o urbanización para la población.
Roberto Palmerín García, presidente del colegio de arquitectos del Occidente de Michoacán, consideró que es un documento necesario porque de esa manera se marcaría una directriz para evitar crecimientos urbanos en lo sucesivo en zonas consideradas de alto riesgo para la población.
Indicó que habría que verificar los cambios que se han presentado en el subsuelo derivado de la explotación de mantos acuíferos que pueden ocasionar hundimientos en diferentes puntos de la zona urbana o socavones que pueden resultar sorpresivos y peligrosos para la población en su tránsito diario.
Mencionó que uno de los ejemplos es lo que ocurre en la calle Corregidora, en donde casi en esquina con Niños Héroes se ve claramente como se ha registrado un hundimiento en ese punto, derivado de que en los últimos años la superficie se ha visto perjudicada por la sobre explotación de los mantos acuíferos.
Concluyó que además se requiere también indicar con precisión en qué otras zonas hay fallas geológicas que pueden ocasionar un movimiento de la tierra y en un momento determinado se pueda afectar la construcción de viviendas como ocurre con algunos asentamientos ubicados hacia la zona nororiente de la localidad.
