– Productores contemplan siembra de 2 mil 500 hectáreas para este temporal

El cultivo de papa iniciará con costos de producción elevados en más del 50 por ciento durante los últimos 4 a 5 años, debido a que la hectárea cultivada rondaba sobre los 170 mil pesos y ahora anda en los 260 mil pesos derivado de un alza importante en el precio de los fertilizantes que se utilizan para proteger el tubérculo de plagas como la paratrioza.
Jorge Hernández Álvarez, presidente de la asociación de pequeños productores de Huarachanillo, informó que el temporal de papa dará inicio a partir del próximo 20 de julio en la zona de la Meseta Purépecha; sin embargo, hay una preocupación para los productores y es el hecho de que las precipitaciones pluviales han sido escasas.
“Ya provocaron que se rezague la producción de maíz en esta región y ahora el temor de nosotros es que haya una falta de líquido que propicie el hecho de que no se pueda dar la producción de papa en buenas condiciones porque recordemos que es uno de los cultivos que requiere de importantes cantidades de agua para que se pueda generar un tubérculo de tamaño y calidad”, explicó.
Aseguró que para esta temporada está contemplado que se puedan sembrar 2 mil 500 hectáreas en la zona de Huarachanillo y el resto de la Meseta Purépecha con la expectativa de que pueda ser costeable y cultivable el producto para este año, pese a que se han rezagado hasta 1 mes las lluvias de acuerdo a las tendencias climatológicas de años atrás.
Concluyó que, en el caso de que las lluvias sean pocas para este año, se corre el riesgo de que la producción de papa baje para este ciclo y se tendría un problema importante entre los productores agrícolas, porque se podría dar un escenario de crisis alimentaria para el año entrante que finalmente terminaría por afectar a la población de la región.
