La Comisión Estatal de los Derechos Humanos (CEDH), a través del visitador regional de Zamora, respalda la solicitud hecha por una mujer zamorana que desea interrumpir su vida. Se trata de una paciente madura con una patología mental que, pese a no tener dificultades físicas, ya le es insoportable vivir, por lo que pidió al director médico del IMSS 82 de Romero de Torres implementar la legislación relativa a una muerte asistida.
Sin embargo, la ley no contempla que a una persona se le interrumpa la vida por un procedimiento médico, más bien existe la posibilidad en ese sentido para que a un enfermo terminal se les suspendan o disminuyan los cuidados paliativos para una muerte más rápida. Una vez que la señora solicitó al director la eutanasia, él no dio respuesta a su solicitud, por ello acudió a la CEDH.
Juan Jaime Contreras Vega, visitador de la CEDH región Zamora, confirmó la recepción de la queja, «procede, hay violación de los derechos humanos de la mujer, por ello solicitamos al director un informe y este nos expresó que no tenemos competencia. Es así que emitimos la queja al órgano competente que es la Comisión Nacional de los Derechos Humanos (CNDH), que se encargará de analizar si la quejosa tiene derecho a la petición y, de ser así, la CNDH emitirá recomendación».
Finalmente admitió que el sistema jurídico nacional está rezagado en la legislación en materia de la eutanasia, «escuchamos expresiones de que los derechos humanos tienden a conservar la vida, pero hay países que ya tienen aprobada la eutanasia, como Colombia, Chile, Canadá y Europa, en México poco se toca el tema, ya que tiene que ver con la moralidad social». Precisó que la señora no quiere suicidarse, sino interrumpir su vida porque se considera enferma terminal.
