Con expectativas inciertas entre productores agrícolas inició el ciclo del cultivo de fresa en la región. Los agricultores esperan una mejora en el precio al interior del mercado de los Estados Unidos para evitar pérdidas económicas como sucedió en el pasado temporal, en donde en algunos casos los ingresos estuvieron por debajo de los 300 mil pesos por hectárea, que es el costo de inversión en tierra tecnificada.
“Recordemos que en el ciclo pasado hubo una caída de 70 por ciento en el precio del producto, derivado de una sobreproducción en el vecino país del norte, principalmente en el Estado de Florida. Para que sea costeable el cultivo, el precio por caja de 4 kilos de la frutilla debe oscilar entre los 200 y 220 pesos y no a 60 pesos, que es como la pagaron en el temporal que inició en 2012”, puntualizó Herlindo Magaña Álvarez, miembro de la asociación de productores del Duero.
Comentó que los tipos de frutilla que se trabajarán en este temporal serán, Albión, San Andrés y Festival, que son fresas de tamaño importante, sabor y coloración, que reúnen las características de compra y exigencia de los estadounidenses.
“Fueron plantadas 3 mil 500 hectáreas en la región, de las que 2 mil 200 son de este municipio. Por cada hectárea cultivada se estima tener una producción de 60 a 70 toneladas, si las condiciones del clima así lo permiten porque debemos tomar en consideración que han cambiado las condiciones climatológicas”, explicó.
Mencionó que la lluvia que cayó a últimas fechas no perjudicó las condiciones de las tierras de cultivo, por el contrario, permitió fortalecerlas para generar las condiciones idóneas para llevar a cabo el cultivo de la frutilla, principalmente en los terrenos que se encuentran tecnificados.
“El punto es que la comercialización de la frutilla será clave para obtener o no ganancias durante este temporal. Esperamos que haya buenos precios en los mercados extranjeros y que podamos recuperar el camino que perdimos el año pasado en relación al cultivo”, dijo.
Agregó que los primeros resultados de la venta del producto se darán en del mes de noviembre a enero, ya que es el periodo en que se presenta la primera floración de la fresa y será un parámetro para determinar cuál será la tendencia del cultivo en lo que resta del ciclo de producción.
