«Si bien es cierto México ya se posicionó dentro de los principales exportadores de berries en fruta fresca y congelada, además está a punto de dar un gran salto en la evolución de la genética en estas frutillas, porque hay que mencionar que muchas veces dependemos de importar el material de otros países, pero hoy ya genetistas y empresarios mexicanos están generando material hecho en México», señaló Juan José Flores García, Gerente General de Aneberries.
De tal suerte que, agregó, ya tienen ejemplos interesantes en zarzamora, “que está evolucionando a nuestra variedad que era la emblemática “Tupy” y variedades privadas; lo mismo está sucediendo en frambuesas, con variedades hechas en México. Eso le va a dar otro posicionamiento a México y en algún momento empezaremos a exportar ese material. Lo que significa más generación de empleos, inversión, oportunidades para unir a la cadena completa y no depender tanto de la importación».
En tanto, Antonio Sámano Ochoa, productor y agro industrial de la zona, recordó que hace 3 años, a consecuencia del cambio climático, se generó la plaga de la pestalotia que afectó al cultivo de la fresa, «no estábamos preparados, por tanto, fue devastador y fuimos a la baja. Desde ese momento se vio la importancia de que los 3 órdenes de gobierno invirtieran en investigación».
Todo ello, concluyó, máxime cuando Zamora es la capital de la exportación de las fresas, «anteriormente lo fue Irapuato, después Zamora, andábamos sobre las 8 o 10 mil hectáreas de la frutilla, había 40 a 50 agro-industrias, pero al caer todos en una zona de confort y al no apostar a la investigación nos fuimos a la baja. Afortunadamente ya el panorama es otro, en la actualidad están emergiendo nuevas variedades mexicanas que están más adaptadas al clima».
